The Alpine Motorcycle Rally is Australia's oldest running motorcycle rally. The first rally was held in 1969 near Yarrangobilly Caves along the Snowy Mountains Highway in the days the Highway was dirt. My first rally was in 1974 and it was held on the western banks of the Goodradigbee River at Perkin's Flat. It was organised by Paul Giles. I attended all rallies up to an including the one held in 1979.
Unfortunately I left for overseas in March 1980 so missed out on attending the rally until 2008 when it was held on the eastern banks of the Goodradigbee River. The following year it was held near Yarrangobilly Caves. For a while each year it alternated between the two sites and is currently organised by Henning Jorgensen. The Yarrangobilly site, being along bitumen, is an easier rally to get to.
If you have any photos of the rally over the years and do not mind sending an image this direction I will endeavour to add them to the following pages.

Every second year it was held at Brindabella but now has been held at the Yarrangobilly site for several years. In the past when travelling from Tumut to Brindabella this sign would always set your mind at ease when it says "Open".

Up until recently every second year the rally was held at Brindabella - 65 kms from Tumut and 60 Kms from Canberra.
Turn off from the main Canberra (ACT) to Tumut (NSW) road and onto the Brindabella Valley Road to get to the Alpine Motorcycle Rally Site when it is held at Brindabella. This is the view you will see when coming from Bondo / Tumut (not sure if the cow will be there to help guide you though). Alpine Motorcycle Rally Site History
A closer look at the sign for the no longer in use "Tinut site".
Coming from Bondo / Tumut this is after the bridge over the Goodradigbee River and of course before the bridge if coming from Picadilly Circus / Canberra
