It was 26 year-old Colonel Tolson, the commander of the Third Battalion paratroopers when he parachuted and took control of Nadzab airport during the Second World War (5th September 1943)

Ward Drome (5 Mile) - Airfield for heavy bombers and transport planes.
Jackson Airport (7 Mile) - Main airfield still in use today

Schwimmer (14 Mile) - Fighter and medium bomber base
Durand Airstrip (17 Mile) - Fighter and medium bomber base
Rogers (Rarona, 30 Mile) - Fighter and medium bomber base
Fisherman's (Daugo) - Emergency landing strip on off shore island.

The airfield was built built by the Australians in the middle of 1942, and surfaced by American engineers. Known as 5-Mile or Wards Drome, the airfield had two 6,000 foot parallel runways.

No, the airstrip was built long before the second world war. It was the site of Port Moresby's first civilian airfield, built in 1933, just north of Joyce Bay in Port Moresby.

The strip was named in honor of RAAF pilot John Jackson shot down and killed in action April 28, 1942 flying P-40E A29-8. To Americans, it was know as 7 Mile prior to that.

Bomana Aerodrome - Built later during the war, as a fighter and medium bomber strip. It was a marston matting airstrip. It was renamed Berry Drome in honor of P-39D 41-7165 pilot Major Jack W. Berry.

I believe it was also called 30-Mile so thast would be a good indication that it was 30 miles from Port Moresby. I believe the 30-miles was airmiles as the crow flies.
On the 15th of November, 1942, the airstrip was named in honour of Major Floyd "Buck" W. Rogers (C.O. of 3rd Bomb Group) who was Killed In Action (KIA) over Buna in A-24 41-15797.

Durand Drome at 17-Mile just outside Port Moresby or sometmes called Waigani was named after MIA P-39 pilot Edward D. Durand missing on a mission to Lae.

Schwimmer Drome - this airstrip at Laloki - 14 Mile just outside Port Moresby was built by the Americans in early 1942, this single runway was surfaced with Marston Matting. It was named in honour of Charles Schwimmer, lost in P-39D 41-6956 interecpting Japanese aircraft over Port Moresby.

They were a group of dedicate people numbering about 400 who operated a chain of radio equiped posts mainly behind enemy lines during the Second World War in the Pacific Islands and Northern Australia.

Their principal role was to warn the allied forces of Japanese shipping , aircraft and troop movements during the Second World War.

A large percentage of the coastwatchers came from the Royal Australian Navy and Australian Army, but others came from the civilian populations of Papua New Ginea, the Solomons, and elsewhere, the Royal Australian Airforce, the New Zealand Navy, the British Solomons Islands Protectorate Defence Force, the U.S. Army and Marine Corps, and even the Dutch Army, of course there were probably other nationalities involved as well but these are the main ones.

Sorry I can not find the answer to that although the Japanese Submarine I22 sunk by PT 122 near the Kumusi River on the 23rd of December 1943 may have been the first recorded sinking.

Sorry I can find no record of this boat operating in PNG although it is possible. The boat was (Patrol Torpedo) PT109 and it was rammed near Gizo Island on the 2nd of August 1943 by the Japanese destroyer Amagiri. The PT boat was split in two. The Lieutenant later became the 35th president of the United States.

Brigadier Potts's Australian Maroubra Force, consisting of the 2/16th Battalion, together with the 2/14th, the 2/27th and the militia 39th and scattered elements of the ill - trained 53rd Battallion - outnumbered and outgunned by an estimated 5 to 1 - fought the Japanese to an eventual standstill on the ridges overlooking Port Moresby from the 26th of August to the 16th of September in 1942.

No, the leaflets were also produced in Pidgin and other local languages. The cards produced for the native population always carried a "totem" of the area as well as the Australian Coat of Arms to make the leaflet look more official and hopefully to be carried to someone who could read and translate the leaflet wherever possible.
