- When was Kapuna Hospital established?
Kapuna Hospital was established by the London Missionary Society in the 1950s, and today is the only medical facility for about 15,000 people. It has 50 beds, and is normally filled to capacity.

- Where is Kapuna Hospital?
Kapuna Hospital is located in a remote area on the southwest peninsula of PNG. It is about 20kms from Baimuru Station. The region is marked by tropical forest and the Purari River delta. There are no roads. Average temperature is around 30 C, and varies from about 40 C to 22 C with high humidity. The wet season is from June to September. There is a pleasant breeze at times.

Health facilities exist in most urban centres but investigative resources are usually very limited. Most towns have private GPs and pharmacies stock most commonly used drugs. Health facilities are very limited in rural areas, including the entire length of the Kokoda Track.

Travel and health insurance is strongly recommended for all overseas travel. Travellers should check with their insurer to make sure that their policy meets their needs and includes provision for international medical evacuation. In particular, travellers should seek advice from their insurer on what type of circumstances and activities are the subject of exclusions in their policy.
