- How much is dinner for one person?
I would hazard a guess that this could be anything from US$1 upwards depending on the type of meal. Buffets at restaurants can be anything from K30 to K60 (1 USD = about 0.3 of 1 Kina). Some hotels in town have a K12 special for dinner. This is about US$2.50 to US$3.00. At the local Japanese restaurant it might cost you in excess of K60 for a meal for one. It really depends on what type of food you want to eat and how hungry you are and how much you want to drink with your meal. i.e. spirits costs more than wine and beer etc.

- what are Bren guns?
I do not think this is an appropriate question about PNG. I do not know of PNG producing Bren Guns nor there use in the country.
to top
- Is there a custom in PNG of giving a mixed married couple, as a wedding gift, a baby from a poor village family??
Not that I am aware. Many people take on the responsibility of looking after a child of a relative especially if the relative has died or is not in a financial position to look after the child - that is just a way of life in PNG where there is no real formal social welfare system.

- I am trying to find the owner of a sword that belonged to a Japanese officer Nakamura who surrendered on board HMAS Burgekin on 8th. Sept 1945 at Balikpapan. The name came off his flag.
I do not think Balikpapan is in PNG. This is the PNG FAQ's.

- How many kangaroos do you see a day in PNG? Are there many on the street?
Just like Australia you have to dodge and weave your way down the street to avoid them. They are a real menace in the big city. Night time it is even worse. They hop in the front door and eat all your food and then escape out the back door before you have even heard them.

- Which timbers are used in the Australian Parliament House?
Not sure. Ebony is used in the Great Hall of the Australian Parliament House and was a gift to the Australian people from Papua New Guinea.
Otherwise the timbers used throughout the Aussie Parliament House are mainly Australian timbers.
oh, by the way this is the PNG not Australian FAQ's.

In what area? Your question is too broad to answer. For example do you want handy hints on gold mining in PNG or handy hints on what to eat? Drink? wear? Or possibly are you after hints on what type of car to buy or possibly where is the best place to buy a house. Please get back to me after you have narrowed your question down a bit.

These pages need your help - If you know an answer to a FAQ about PNG that isn't here or is here and is wrong please let me know. Please remember that this is a FAQ database about Papua New Guinea.
Doing a search for PNG or New Guinea or even P.N.G will probably not return much. Keep the search simple. i.e. if you want to find out the population simply enter "population" without the quotes. There is no need to have PNG / P.N.G or whatever in the search string.
Also - Spelling is important searching for 'inkom' will not return items related to 'income'
