The last passenger carrying Air Niugini Fokker F28 to be allowed on Australian soil left Cairns, North Queensland, on the 31st of March, 2004. Noise and pollution legislation has meant that the Fokker F28 4000 series is too noisy for operation into Australia.
The F28 will be replaced for a short time by a Regional Jet (RJ70) owned and operated by National Jet Systems in Australia.
Air Niugini will replace this temporary replacement with another temporary replacement - a Fokker 100 - F100 - until a suitable long term replacement Fokker F100 can be found.
