Port Moresby International Schools
Ela Murray International School - Web Site Link
In 2000, two leading international schools in Port Moresby amalgamated.
The two schools are now known as The Ela Murray International School. The school operates on
two sites with a total enrolment of more than 800 students. Around 30
per cent of pupils are from PNG, while the rest are expatriates from all
over the world. The school has a strong commitment to child-centred education.
Parents are encouraged to be part of their child's learning at Ela Murray
and are welcome to participate in class activities. A very active parent
group exists and they arrange many social and fund raising activities
for the school.
Computer facilities include a dedicated IT classroom on each site. All
classrooms have at least one computer. Classrooms are networked with Internet
access and all are air-conditioned.
Athletics and swimming carnivals are held each year. Children participate
in inter-school sport. A strong schools soccer competition exists. After
school activities are provided for students and include many educational,
social and recreational activities.
Education was provided from early learning to Grade 2 at the Ela Beach
site. A modern, purpose-built Early Learning Area was part of the school
and offered an outstanding standard of early childhood education and after
school care. This site has now (2005) become the headquarters of the IEA.
The Murray Site caters for Grade 3-8. This site boasts a performing arts
block, practice facilities for music, an oval, open play areas, assembly
area, well-equipped library, science and technology block, tennis, basketball
and netball courts, and a 25-metre swimming pool.
Gordon International School
Gordon International School was established in 1992 to provide a high
quality education for Papua New Guineans at a price more attuned to the
Papua New Guinean economy than many international schools. While most
of the children are from Papua New Guinea, there is no bar to parents
from other countries choosing to enrol their children here. Indeed, those
expatriate children enrolled at the school experience more of the rich
culture and traditions of life in Papua New Guinea than many of their
counterparts at other international schools.
Classes are of mixed ability and the school has a strong emphasis on child-centred
learning. Gordon has a proud record of academic success and consistently
performs well in Grade 8 examinations. In 2003 Gordon will welcome its
middle school students onto the main site in Gordon so that the school
will be a Prep - Grade 8 school on one site.
This school is situated on two sites. Boroko East caters for Prep to Grade
2 and also has an Early Learning Centre. Its grounds provide a very attractive
learning environment with the rain forest, swimming pool and large grounds
giving the students lots of room to play. Internationally qualified teachers
and the provision of a specifically designed library, well resourced and
recently renovated classrooms and computers in all classrooms ensure that
all students receive a quality education.
Korobosea, Grade 3-8, is also well resourced with an excellent library,
computer and sporting facilities, and a swimming pool. The school uses
the IEA curriculum and also prepares students for the PNG public examinations
at the end of Grade 8. The school has a very high reputation as one of
the top academic schools in the country, due in part to its excellent
performance in these examinations.
The school has a web site that was launched on the 15th of March 2005
