The Bank of PNG produced a special 50 toea coin to mark the running of the ninth South Pacific Games. Some events were held in Lae but the majority were held in Port Moresby during September 1991. Air Niugini played a vital part in getting people from the opening ceremony in Port Moresby to their events in Lae. It was a mammoth job well done for the national airline of PNG.
