via Papua New Guinea

Suburbs of National Capital District (Port Moresby)

Port Moresby is the capital of Papua New Guinea. It is the biggest city in the country. It original official name was Granville West but it has always been better known as Port Moresby. Granville East is the area occupied by the Governor General's residence.

The area on which the city was founded has been inhabited by the Motu-Koitabu people for centuries. It was first sighted by a European in 1873 by Captain John Moresby. It was named in honour of his father Admiral Sir Fairfax Moresby
