Autonomous Region of Bougainville (ARB)

The Autonomous Region of Bougainville (ARB) is also known as North Solomons. It is a special "autonomous" region in Papua New Guinea and is the largest of the Solomon Islands group. The largest island is called Bougainville. The capital is on the small island of Buka although this is only a temporary capital. It is expected that the capital will one day return to Arawa.

The main island was named after the French navigator Louis Antoine de Bougainville who also gave his name to the Bougainvillea.
