What are some of the things that can not be brought into PNG?

1 - Agricultural Items

  • All kinds of food, both fresh, smoked, canned, bottled or manufactured

2 - Domestic Pets

  • There are prohibitions and restrictions on the importation of all domestic pets, such as dogs, cats, birds and fish into PNG

3 - Drugs / Medicine

  • The importation of all drugs into PNG is prohibited or restricted. All travellers are required to advise Customs if they are carrying nay prescribed medicine or medicinal preparations

4 - Censorship of Video Tapes & Films

  • All video tapes and films are subject to the Classifications of Publication (Censorship) Act of 1989 and will be detained for screening and clearance by the Chief Censor.

5 - Obscene Literature

  • All obscene material including pictures, magazines, playing cards, blue-movies, and any other undesirable literature in violation of public decency is a prohibited import. Such material will be seized and offenders may be prosecuted.

6 - Firearms and Weapons

  • The importation of all types of firearms and weapons is restricted. All firearms and ammunition for firearms must be declared to Customs upon arrival in PNG which will be detained for clearance by the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary.

7 - Radio Transmitters including "Walkie Talkies" (hand held transmitters) and Telephones

  • Some radio transmitting equipment and telephones offered for sale overseas, while not a prohibited import are restricted and may not comply with PNG Telikom licencing conditions.

8 - Money

  • There is a restriction on the amount of money that can be brought into PNG. Please be aware and if you are considering bringing in large sums of cash you must check with the PNG authorities before leaving home otherwise the money can be confiscated or at the bare minimum you will face a very large fine.
