East and West Sepik provincesAmbunti, Angoram, Maprik and Wewak are districts in the East Sepik province Aitape, Amanab, Lumi, Nuku, Telefomin and Vanimo are districts in the West Sepik or Saundaun province ScarificationScarifying involves scratching, etching, or superficially cutting designs, pictures, or words into the skin as a permanent body modification. Scarification is practiced in the Sepik region of PNG. Scarification is usually more visible on darker skinned people than tattoos. It is similar in nature to livestock branding.
