** BMW R60/5 Avon Fairing **

via Papua New Guinea

BMW R60/5 (1972-3)

The R60/5 is currently being restored (S L O W L Y).

One of the major items is the full Mitchenall Bros Avon fairing fitted by the original owner Ian Taylor. The fairing has been on the bike since almost its first days in Victoria (Australia).

These are some photos of the repair work.

Anyone have a spare transfer / decal ? for the finished project?

After a search I was able to locate this from Sprint in the United Kingdom.

The Avonaire fairing was made in England, first by Mitchenall Bros.Co. and then the Sprint Manufacturing Co. It was distinquished from Sprint's line of Avon handlebar fairings by being a full coverage frame-mounted fairing. Sprint made the Avonaire fairing from the 1960's through the 1980's to fit Triumphs, BSAs, Vincents and BMWs through the /6 series. --- This information was supplied by Allan Atherton visit his web site at https://www.flickr.com/photos/roundel/21095487549

The fairing is attached to the bike using specially designed crash bars and "U" frame.
