Road Accident Figures 1997 - 2000
The above table has been compiled using figures readily available from the National Road Safety Council of Papua New Guiea (NRSC). The Council admits that the figures are not satisfactory as there is little money available to compile them into a meaningful fashion. They should only be used as a guide. The figures are compiled manually by police in the provinces. The records were held in a database by the NRSC but due to not being prepared for the Year 2000 (Y2K) all these valuable records were lost, although with only approx 4,000 accidents reported each year it shouldn't be too hard for even a manual system to be set up until suitable software or funding is found to replace the non-Y2K program.
