The 14th of June 2018 will be recorded forever as an extremely bad day for aviation in Papua New Guinea and Air Niugini.
P2-ANX, while on the ground at Mendi was entered by thugs. The crew were asked to leave and did so. The plane was then set on fire and was not able to be rescued.
A recent decision by the National Court of PNG sparked the incident. The aircraft, apparently already delayed, landed just as the decision was becoming known in Mendi and it would appear little could be done to stop the destruction of the aircraft.
